Position: Communications & Engagement Coordinator

Status: Part-Time (30 hours per week, non-exempt)


About This Role

The Communications & Engagement Coordinator supports the Office Manager and leads the development, coordination, and execution of the church’s communications and engagement efforts. This role is responsible for ensuring clear, consistent, and compelling messaging across all platforms, while fostering meaningful communication and participation within the church community.


This position serves as the primary steward of the church's public-facing communication strategy. This includes website development and management, social media engagement, church-wide communication strategies, branding, storytelling, event promotion, and other communication channels that help people take meaningful next steps in their relationship with Christ and involvement in the life of the church.


This position is responsible for maintaining a high standard of excellence in church communications by ensuring messaging is accurate, polished, consistent, professional, and aligned with the mission, vision, strategy, values, and voice of First Baptist Church.


After acclimation and proficiency in this position is established, there may be potential for the role to expand by providing some administrative support for Kids and Student ministries.


Primary Responsibilities

Church-Wide Communications, Engagement, and Quality Control

  • Support the Office Manager in coordinating and administering incoming office tasks and requests to ensure efficient workflow and communication across ministries.
  • Manage church-wide communication strategies, including newsletters, event promotion, ministry updates, and special communication campaigns.
  • Establish communication standards that ensure consistency across all communication platforms.
  • Utilize digital communication tools to help people move from awareness to engagement and from online interaction to in-person participation and retention.
  • Coordinate communication schedules and publication calendars.
  • Create, schedule, and publish engaging content that informs, inspires, and encourages participation in the life of the church.
  • Develop and execute the church's social media strategy across all relevant platforms boosting follower interaction and participation.
  • Manage website content and engagement strategy, ensuring all information remains current, accurate, engaging, and aligned with church priorities.
  • Monitor and respond to social media comments, messages, and inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure all public-facing content is polished, accurate, consistent, and free of spelling, grammatical, factual, and formatting errors prior to publication.
  • Track and report on engagement metrics including social media activity, attendance, and participation.
  • Stay informed regarding emerging communication trends, tools, and best practices relevant to churches and nonprofit organizations.

Marketing, Branding, and Content Creation

  • Develop and implement communication and promotional plans for church-wide events, ministries, classes, outreach initiatives, and special campaigns.
  • Create graphics, promotional materials, videos, photography, digital advertisements, and other communication assets that support ministry objectives.
  • Help tell stories of life transformation, ministry impact, volunteer involvement, and community engagement.
  • Maintain consistent branding, messaging, and visual identity across all church communications.
  • Collaborate with ministry leaders to identify communication opportunities and support ministry goals.

Ministry Support

  • Coordinate weekly church announcements and communication materials.
  • Prepare presentation slides and communication assets used in worship services and church-wide gatherings.
  • Support ministry leaders in communicating effectively with participants, volunteers, guests, and the congregation.

Team Participation

  • Attend a portion of weekly staff meetings and ministry planning discussions as determined by the Office Manager and Lead Pastor.
  • Collaborate with church staff and ministry leaders to advance the mission of First Baptist Church.
  • Maintain communication-related budgets as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support the communication and engagement goals of the church.

  • Self-motivated and able to accomplish tasks with minimal day-to-day supervision.

Your Team

This position reports to the Office Manager and works closely with the Lead Pastor, church staff, ministry leaders, and volunteers to ensure effective communication and meaningful engagement across the organization. Strong collaboration and teamwork are essential to the success of this role.


Your Schedule

This is a part-time position with an expectation of 30 hours per week. Regular office hours are to be established in coordination with the Office Manager. Attendance at portions of weekly staff meetings and other ministry planning meetings may be required as determined by ministry needs. There may be 2-4 times annually where evening or weekend hours may be required to support ministry events, communication campaigns, photography, videography, or other special projects.


Compensation

A competitive hourly wage between $20 and $24 per hour, commensurate with the education, experience, skills, and qualifications of the selected candidate will be offered.
